NEW HOPE CHILDREN'S CENTRE UPLANDS

SHOWING GOD'S LOVE IN OUR SOCIETY

New Hope Children's Centre – Uplands is a registered charitable Children's Home dedicated to rescuing abandoned orphaned children and giving them hope for a better future.

As a Christian Centre, our main concern is to show love and kindness to them, but more significantly (by God's grace) to help them 'know God and Jesus Christ whom He hath sent.

We admit destitute orphan children without a home or living with guardians who cannot take care of them due to extreme poverty or physical disability. However, dire cases of poverty may also be considered.

Today, over 130 children in the Home hail from the entire country.

The Home relies solely on the benevolence and generosity of individual/corporate well-wishers for its survival. Any help (in cash or in-kind) is highly appreciated.

In the Beginning

Life begins when you start something

Mr. & Mrs Chege, both retired bankers, brought up, in their home, several orphans and needy children together with their four children. They retired from employment, and into full-time ministry, as volunteers in service of the Most High God. They have four children who also assist in this work. The Home was officially opened on 16th April 2000 with Mr. & Mrs Chege as the Directors of the Home. Mr. & Mrs Chege run the Home as full-time volunteers, assisted by 12 staff members and trustee members.

Tiras Mburu Chege

Founder

Formerly an employee of Bank of Baroda. All fondly remember him as "Dad". A father to the many who passed through New Hope, who otherwise would never have an opportunity to call anyone "Dad".

Anne Gathoni Chege

Founder & Director

Anne is a retired banker, having worked with Barclays Kenya for almost three decades before starting New Hope in 2000. Anne says, "God has given this generation the capacity to remove and prevent all needless suffering - by putting within our reach the resources needed to protect children from the most common diseases, to provide them with the necessities of food, shelter, clothing, and health care. But what is lacking has been the vision and the moral will towards this challenge."

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." - James 1:27 (English-NIV)

NEW HOPE ALUMNI

Since 2000, with the support of our friends, over 2000 children have benefited by having a safe and loving environment in which to grow and thrive. They have received a good education from primary to college. We have Masters's Degree graduates, doctors, nurses, teachers, high-ranking police officers, lawyers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and computer scientists, all having passed through New Hope and are now part of the robust New Hope Alumni who mentor the current New Hope population.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

New Hope continues to impact the surrounding community by mobilising food donations for the poor and providing water during a drought. We have built over 80 houses for poor grandmothers who would otherwise live on the roadside in sheds. We help educate their orphaned grandchildren. Over the years, the grandmothers move on to their properties with the help of their working grandchildren, and we get new occupants for their houses.

OAKRIDGE CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

In 2019, we set up the Oakridge Center of Excellence to provide quality education for the children in New Hope and the community in our education support program. Oakridge has risen to a top-performing school in the region. We look to expand to the technical college level.

DONATE VIA POKEAPAY

Whether you are off-duty or on holiday, or you are a keen runner, there is a way you can support New Hope and make a REAL difference in the lives of these children.

DONATIONS

New Hope relies on the benevolence of people just like you to survive. We keep our administrative costs to a minimum. Therefore your contribution will go a long way towards our sustenance. You can send your donation for our ongoing operating costs or fund any of our capital projects. You can specify which need you would like your contribution to be used towards or leave it to the New Hope staff to choose the most urgent need. You can also choose New Hope Children's Centre as a beneficiary of tax-deductible organisational donations in some countries.

Sponsorship

Looking after the children costs money. Please consider sharing this burden with us by sponsoring a child - whether in their education and their upkeep. Approximately $38 (£20) will feeds one child for 1 Month & $30 (£15) will cover healthcare costs for one child for 1 Year. Even if you can only commit a small amount of money, we would love to chat about how you can help. Please get in touch with us if you want to sponsor a child or have questions about child sponsorship.

IN-KIND; SERVICES & CARE-GIVING

New Hope Children's Centre has various needs year-round that you can help to fulfil: from consumable items to items that help us manage our non-profit work - we can use your help! Moreover, are you a Medic, Dentist, Nurse, Counsellor, Builder etc.? We could very much do with free professional services. We also know that many creative individuals with good ideas (such as fund-raising, self-sustainability etc.) may be willing to share; we also welcome your thoughts! As mentioned earlier, the needs of the children vary, but most of all, their greatest need is to have loving people to care for them and appreciate them. Please feel free to visit the orphanage; we love visitors.

PRAYERS

Pray for us as we look to meet the day-to-day needs of these children. Pray for their personal growth & development and the labourers as they guide the same.

GO TELL.......

This is an excellent way for you to get involved in supporting us!!! You never know what a simple Word-Of-Mouth about us to your family/friends/church/associates can lead to! Many have found this a gratifying way to help those in need. Be a part of changing our children's lives today.

They have been affected by climate change that has brought about unreliable rains and flash floods in the last four years, with nothing left to grow on the farms. They survived the HIV scourge of the 1990s and 2000s but lost their children to HIV AIDS.
